Pond Conservation is the national charity dedicated to protecting the wildlife of our freshwaters: ponds, rivers, streams and lakes. They give advice, carry out research, promote practical action and lobby policy makers to ensure that freshwater wildlife and habitats have a secure future. The Million Ponds Project initiative aims to reverse a century of loss and decline in Britain`s ponds, so that once again we have a million ponds in the British countryside. The project will bring clean water back to many landscapes and create vital new wildlife habitats. In the first four years the project partners will make 5,000 clean-water ponds across England and Wales. As part of a Partnership Project with Biffaward the Million Ponds Project is providing funding for pond creation schemes for pond associated BAP species. Restore UK is supporting the creation of these BAP ponds by providing match funding for 53 ponds at 13 sites in Wales. These ponds will be specifically designed for species including Water Vole, Otter, Common Toad, Great Crested Newt, protected bats and rare plants like Pillwort and Three-lobed Crowfoot.

Greater are none beneath the Sun,
Than Oak, and Ash, and Thorn.
